In VS2005, open the "Server Explorer" Window. Under "Data Connections", connect to a local MSSQL database. Right click on a stored procedure and select "Open".
Two error dialogs are presented:
quote:
---------------------------
Visual Assist X
---------------------------
The file 'mssql:://MyMachine/MyDB/dbo/Stored Procedure/dbo/SprocName' has been deleted!
Be sure to save the contents of the editor before closing the window.
and
quote:
---------------------------
Visual Assist X
---------------------------
The file 'mssql:' has been deleted!
Be sure to save the contents of the editor before closing the window.
Reproduced in: VA_X.dll file version 10.4.1618.0 built 2007.11.15 DevEnv.exe version 8.0.50727.762 msenv.dll version 8.0.50727.762 Font: Consolas 13(Pixels) Comctl32.dll version 6.0.2900.2982 Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 2 2 processors
Also occurred in earlier builds.

Hi again,
I have reinstalled Visual Assist X several times and the problem is still there, basically I have to have it disabled all the time.

You wrote "This issue has reappeared in build 1711!"
What version of VA were you using prior to 1711?
If you reinstall that version, does the problem go away?

Hi,
I have reinstalled build 1647 and it resolved the issue with the error dialogs and delete of SQL server objects.
Cheers Christian |

I have this problem as well. I simply load a project in VS 2008 and try to edit a stored procedure from the server explorer in Visual Studio and I get the error. I believe it can be any object in server explorer and not just a stored procedure. It appears that the error only occurs once and reappears when I restart Visual Studio.
Error Message: First Dialog titled Visual Assist X states: The file 'mssql::////////////server\\sqlserver2005////dbname////dbo///Stored Procedure///dbo////storedprocedurename' has been deleted! Be sure to save the contents of the editor before closing the window.
The second dialog titled Visual Assist X states: The file 'mssql:' has been deleted! Be sure to save the contents of the editor before closing the window.
The second dialog is actually displayed first and is behind the first dialog that has to be acknowledged before returning to the second dialog.

I am seeing the same effect here. Thank you for the clear description.
case=9609
It took a while to find out how to connect to a local SQL Server 2005 Express, but very easy to reproduce once I was past that problem. |
