Ok, I don't know how to reproduce it, but it has happened twice during the last two days.
Suddenly, I cannot type '(' or ')'. When I type any other character the cursor jumps to a totally different location and I get the impression that a paste was performed.
If I disable VAX (1624) at this point, everything goes back to normal. A restart of the IDE seems to be required to get VAX working properly again.
Any ideas? Could there be an error log somewhere for more details?

V. 1626 doesn't fix this particular problem it's also not really a crash, VAX keeps responding in other editor windows, it just keeps eating keypresses of "(" and similar in one particular editor window
There is confusion in this thread. From the VA history VA 1626 contains the fix:
* Fixed random crash that would occur under heavy load. (case=10946) * Fixed random hang on certain systems in which Windows complex script support is installed (regression introduced in build 1624). (case=10679)
both fixes were actual crashes / hangs, rather than typing problems.
Critical crash!
