The only menus which are enable are refactor and tools when I am editing a .cpp file, or any other file. It works fine in 2005.
I have removed VAX, restart and re-install to no avail.

Any idea?

Is the solution stored on a local drive?
What directory is the solution stored in?

Yes the solution is on the local drive, not the same as VAX.
E: vs c:

Once VAX became enable. Then it when away.
I have no other extentions to dev studio.

This is using xp.

I also have Vista on the same computer and VAX run properly on the same project.

Vista and xp are on two different drives and do not relate to each other, except that they share the same e:drive where this project resides.

I will re-install 2008 on xp and give it another try.

This is strange.
Uninstall 2008 and re-install.
The first time vax is enable looks perfect.
Second time it is disable.

Very strange
Any idea.

Can you create a new default C++ project, in the directory "E:\\src\\" and see what happens please?
This should eliminate most variables, and hopefully give us a clue as to what is happening here.

Adding another project has no effect.
The problem is at start up either. It is enabled then or it does not work.
If I restart my computer the first time VS is brought up then VAX is enable and works properly,
After VS is stopped thereafter VAX is disabled when VS is brought up again.
This is a quad processor I have no idea if this is relevant.

I am sorry it works pretty much the same but a difference.
Came up the first time as before.
Came up again the second time hope! hope!
When I close VS I was told that VAX cause an error.
From there after the problem recurred as before.
I will re-install when I have some time and see if the sequence is the same.
Sorry I have some work which must be done first, should have time tomorrow.
Thank you
Andre

Can you provide details of this error you see when closing the IDE?
Have you seen an error when closing the IDE before, or is this new?

If the IDE decides that VA has crashed and reports this via an error message then it can stop it from loading. Can you look at:

IDE tools menu -> Add-in Manager -> list of available add-ins

and see if VA is set to load on startup or not?

Found it !!!!
If I start VS using a short cut key. ctr./shift/f12 then it only works the first time.
If I click on the short cut it works all the time.
Thank you for your help.
Andre
PS: Could you tell me if you can reproduce the problem?

I think holding down shift or control (can't remember which) suppresses add-ins when VS starts. Maybe that's your problem.

How have you mapped this shortcut key to Visual Studio? Are you using some form of utility program to handle keyboard shortcuts? Have you set the shortcut key on a desktop shortcut? Done something else?

I just set up the short cut key by using right shift on the short cut and change the properties. I am not sophisticated user.
And the answer is the shift key disable addin... (interesting that it works the first time)
Pressing on the shift key and clicking on the shortcut also disable the addin obviously.
I change the shortcut it all works.
Thank you for all your help.

So why does it work on Vista? And why does it work the fist time on XP.
It is all timing.
The first time I have time to let go the shift key before VS check it.
Vista must start slower then XP (big suprise) and I just beat it every time.
If I hold the shift key it is always disabled.

Interesting, I did not know that happened. I am glad to see this is now working correctly.
