While working with lates build of vax 1646 in VS2008 C++ vax sporadically crashes the IDE. Mostly this seems to happen after file-accesses. Also saw some heavy performance lags with up to 99% CPU usage on both cores and it never returned. I rebuild the DB and it may helped with the performance lag (didnt tested it out finally...), but IDE still crashes. This also happend with the previous version. Didnt checked out older version, cause i switched to VS2008 a few days ago.

Sorry that i cant tell you more about the crash circumstances, but thats the reality of sporadic errors

I am using WinXP SP2, Intel E6600 dual core, 2 GB ram. VS2008 Pro 9.0.21022.8 RTM on .NET 3.5. Additonal Plug-Ins Refactor! 2.5, SourceLinks 1.0. and Source Control is ClearCase.

Actually disabled VAX and no more crashes appeared since then .

I would not expect any problems with these plugin's, they are fairly standard.

Next time the IDE crashes can you debug with a new instance of the IDE and save out a mini dump file and then send us this dump file please. Hopefully it will offer a few clues as to the problem you are seeing.

Please submit the files via the form:

http://www.wholetomato.com/support/contact.asp

including this thread ID or URL in the description, so we can match it up.

Also can you please go to:

VA Options -> System Info -> Copy Info

and paste the details (from the clipboard) into your reply. This will give us the basic information about your setup.

I have the dump file, thank you for this. I have asked our developers if they have any idea:

case=18641

I am not seeing any sign of VA in the call stack. Can you try deleting the NCB file from the base directory of your solution please. The IDE will rebuild this file, and sometimes a corrupt NCB file will crash the IDE.

Actually the IDE crashes regardless VAX is enabled/installed or not (first it helped...). Must be a general problem of the IDE. Maybe also the performance lags.

I contacted microsoft, hope they find a resolution for the problem

The IDE didnt look very stable yet, seems we have to wait for SP6

You could try repairing / reinstalling the IDE, this might help.

It is nice to know that VA is not causing the problem, but this does not help you that much.
