Build 1806 is the second beta build of Visual Assist X to target Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 and can be installed from:
http://www.wholetomato.com/binaries/VA_X_Setup1806.vsix
Install
The Visual Studio Version Selector should automatically run upon clicking the download link if Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 has been installed. If not, save the file and run it on a system that does have Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 installed. No administrative privileges are required to install. Visual Assist X does not support Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1.
Installing a vsix will only affect Visual Studio 2010. Previous releases of Visual Assist X installed in other versions of Visual Studio will be unaffected by this installation.
If you are running Visual Studio 2010 with administrative privileges, you will need to explicitly allow extensions to run:
Tools | Options | Environment | Extension Manager | "Load per user extensions when running as administrator"
Notes
Support for Visual Studio 2010 is ongoing. We anticipate that this will be the last build which solely targets Visual Studio 2010. The next build will be for all IDEs.
Some VA features in VS2010 now operate a little differently compared to other versions of Visual Studio.
- VA does not underline source code in C/C++ in VS2010.
- C++ include directories are now project defined. VA will use the platform include directories defined in your project unless you specifically change the VA Platform option to Custom.
- If you have automatic symbol reference highlighting enabled in both VA and in C#, VA will not highlight in C# files. Disable the IDE option (Tools | Options | Text Editor | C#) if you prefer VA highlight behavior.
New in 1806
- The hovering refactor popup button is back and now also appears while typing.
- The refactor popup button is semi-transparent until the mouse moves over it.
- The following default keybindings have been added:
Alt+Shift+F : Find References
Alt+Shift+R : Rename
Alt+Shift+C : Create from Usage
Alt+Shift+Q : Refactor menu
Known Issues
A short, incomplete list of known issues:
- Colors used by VA may be incorrect after install. If this occurs, don't mess with the IDE or VA Options dialogs; just restart again (appears to be bug in VS).
- Changes to the bold checkboxes in the IDE Options dialog may require restart to work properly (appears to be bug in VS).
- Changes made to project references or project include directories will not be picked up until the project is reloaded.
- VA is not adding source comments to parameter info tooltips.
- Although background color items can be set in the IDE Options dlg, the colors will not be used in non-editor windows (applies to Class, Method, Variable, Macro / Enum items).
- VA is not yet using IDE themed colors in toolwindows, etc.
- Text in C# breakpoints may intermittently be colored (no coloring should take place).
- In C++, if Get content from default Intellisense is enabled and it fails to generate a members listbox, ctrl+space will not cause VA to display one; backspace over . or -> and retype to get a list from VA.
- If coloring of tooltips is enabled, the default colors rather than your colors are used.
- Coloring in C# files is a bit flaky (appears to be bug in VS).
- "Bold non-inherited members" does not work properly.
- "List non-inherited entries first" does not work properly.
- Listboxes do not work and VA features are not active in xaml files
Fixes in 1806
- Fix for invisible QuickInfo tooltip text when coloring of tooltips is enabled.
- Source comments now added to QuickInfo tooltips.
- Fixed a crash or two.
- Bold Fonts and Colors option now works for brace highlights.
- Fix for typing while in box-mode selection.
- Fixed positioning of members listboxes.
- VA X Brace and VA X Find Reference color items no longer appear read-only in the IDE Options dialog.
- Fixed some cases in which the line was not properly scrolled into view in response to Alt+G.
