Ok, I don't know how to reproduce it, but it has happened twice during the last two days.

Suddenly, I cannot type '(' or ')'. When I type any other character the cursor jumps to a totally different location and I get the impression that a paste was performed.

If I disable VAX (1624) at this point, everything goes back to normal. A restart of the IDE seems to be required to get VAX working properly again.

Any ideas? Could there be an error log somewhere for more details?

System informationWindows XP SP2
Visual Studio 2008 Developer Edition (Team Explorer installed)
VAX 1624

There is confusion in this thread. From the VA history VA 1626 contains the fix:

* Fixed random crash that would occur under heavy load. (case=10946)
* Fixed random hang on certain systems in which Windows complex script support is installed (regression introduced in build 1624). (case=10679)

both fixes were actual crashes / hangs, rather than typing problems.

V. 1626 doesn't fix this particular problem
it's also not really a crash, VAX keeps responding in other editor windows, it just keeps eating keypresses of "(" and similar in one particular editor window

Are you actually seeing a crash? Your thread title says crash. As accord says we have fixed several crashing problems in VA 1626:

The crash problem is probably fixed in 1626.

Worth mentioning: I enabled VA Outline a couple of days ago. It is set as "auto-hide" in a separate pane...
