How can I fill this list?
Only by selected a symbol from the list?

Would be nice if I had a command to place entries by context.

Only selections from the FIW and SIW list are added to the MRU list.

We are considering other means by which you can add to the MRU, and mark entries you want to be sticky.

"Sticky" means they stay at the top, or don't disappear with "Clear All", or what?

You must add some new functionality to add other symbols/locations to this MRU list. Selecting this from FIW/SIW is to much work in a coding process.
I.E.: You are coding something. You know you have to return to this location frequently. My intention would be, open the context menu or use a hotkey to remember this location/function in the MRU list.

I was excited to see the MRU list, then a bit disappointed when it didn't mean what I thought it would. A couple of suggested options that would make it better for me (and presumably others that think like me):

1) Have the Goto command add its target to the MRU list. I navigate by ALT-G about half the time. For example, when I'm start a small project that adds some functionality, I usually start at one file, then ALT-G to a function definition when I need to change it. Then I use a bunch of CTRL-TABs to navigate among the files. I'd love to use the MRU to do this more efficiently.

2) Have the MRU optionally (via checkbox or VA option) work for files only. I usually think in terms of files (for better or worse), so the symbols would probably just be clutter to me.

I've been a VA6.0 user for about a year now. I just installed my first VAX (1219) today, and I'm lovin' the new stuff!

I agree with Ed about populating the MRU with Alt+G symbols. I am finding that I nagivate code almost exclusively with Alt+G and the FIW. Alternatively, lose the MRU altogether & use the space for the HCB. I don't find it that useful at present.

BTW, I would like to see the FIW and SIW support wildcards. They already support partial matches very nicely, & I think this would be a natural progression with good usability benefits. Any plans?

We have grand plans for the MRU list. Read more at:

http://forum.wholetomato.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1612

Learn what the MRU does today at:

http://www.wholetomato.com/x/products/features/mru.html?more=yes

No plans yet for wildcards in the FIW and SIW. We have considered it several times. Not yet convinced of the value given all the other stuff we need to finish (and fix.)

I agree that wildcards would be nice in the FIW. When learning to work with it the last week or so, I've actually tried entering an asterisk wildcard (because we have hundreds of files and I couldn't remember the exact name I was looking for). Obviously, it didn't work, so I jumped back to FileView and got it that way.

I see how it's a low priority compared to a lot of other stuff, but it would definitely be a "nice to have" someday.

Build 1220 includes options in the Right+Click menu of the MRU to control populating.

Awesome! I upgraded to 1220, and the "include opened files" option is exactly what I wanted. Thanks very much, WT!

Other readers: If you have multiple projects with many files each (preferably with somewhat unique names), and have always scrolled and scrolled through File View, then VA View is for you! Turn on the options in the previous post, and you'll find your files much more quickly. I've already saved a lot of frustration in the short time since I've been using VAX 1220.
