Often it would be very convenient to have multiple related files opening at once. This may be a group a classes somehow related to a task, files related to a bug which I'm fixing, etc. There is not obvious or automatic relation between these files, yet I would like to be able to create groups of files.
I am not yet sure how this might be done, maybe selecting items from the history list and right click -> Group, or tag the files in the Open Files dialog. Or maybe have even a separate list where I can add files to groups. Or, extend the functionality of the standard "File View" with "File Groups". |

One problem I anticipate is that often one file would belong to many groups. |

What is the problem with this? You open the group (which contains files to open). Many groups can contain the same file. |

No conceptual problem, I just meant that the UI might be complicated. Or maybe not. |

Uhm, yeah. I'm sure WT can come up with something reasonable, right? |

Somewhere down the road, we expect to implement a feature by which you can tag, or make sticky, a group of objects, These would form an active group. You could move between the objects quickly. A smarter MRU list.

We believe Whidbey might have a feature similar to what we have in mind. We aren't sure. We need to look more. If so, we avoid the effort, improve what MS does, and/or retrofit for older IDEs. The topic is wide open for now, and we aren't looking to discuss it just yet. |
