I (unfortunately) have bunches of comments with only an opening paren and so a mismatched closing paren is never (well hardly ever) caught. But that isn't the problem though it is a contributing factor. I type in a statement and decide after I have two classes added that I need to enclose them and divide by 2 so as to average them. If I type in the closing parenthesis first it matches up with some comment and when I type in the opening parenthesis no matching takes place. I can put the cursor inside any pair and nothing happens and I have waited plenty long for it to update the colors if it was going to. I can Ctrl-Tab to bring another file to the foreground and then Ctrl-Tab back and everything is fine again. I don't think the comments thing is a red herring. I tried it on a short file without the strange comments and it works fine. I added a comment with an opening paren and no closing one and the bad behaviour is there. |
