As things currently stand, you let the user pick the color for variables and permit the user to make the local symbols bold. Is it feasible to allow the user to pick different colors for local symbols and member variables? The bold option makes the text look ugly. Maybe you could offer the option to underline local symbols or member variables instead.
Color is not an option. [Long story omitted.] We need an attribute. Not many are suitable given the fixed size the IDE reserves for each character. Outline? Shadow? Strikeout? None are feasible.
For now, try a few different fonts. Courier New is not bad.
