Using build 1235 in VC6, the <auto_ptr> 'reset' member function doesn't appear in the VA View window... it does show up in the VA View window in VS2003.

OK - I take it all back. The auto_ptr in VC6.0 is not a STL auto_ptr and has no reset member. Sigh!
