I recently installed VAX (VA_X.dll file version 10.0.1237.0) and found that adding words to the spelling dictionary wasn't working.

It turns out that the custom spelling dictionary (USUser.dic) was installed as a read-only file. I write-enabled the file and it's now working OK. I'm running MSVC6 on XP SP1.

Happened to me, too, with VAX 1240 and XP SP2 RC2. I posted that in the other spellchecking thread that support apparently no longer reads...

At least there's an easy workaround. Some acknowledgement from Support that they've noted the problem would be good, though (hint hint).

Thanks for the report and workaround. The installer will no-longer install the write protected file(build 1244).

We are working on updating our spell checker to a much smarter one that supports multiple languages, allows you to edit your word lists, ....

Good news on both counts - thanks! (I hope the new spell checker will cope with abbreviations like "we'll".)
