Hi,

The Armadillo protection you guys are using for Visual Assist X is failing on Windows XP SP2 RC2. It is giving me a "General extraction error". It might me the new memory protection of SP2 that is stopping the virus like behavior of Armadillo protection.

Thanks.

Do you have a system debugger running, eg SoftICE? If so, try installing without the debugger.

Hi Support,

Thanks for your fast reply.
No, i don't have Softice installed at home. Although i use it quite extensivly at work ( I work for Compuware consulting and we mainly work with Driver Studio ). I have Microsoft Debugger set as my JIT Debugger.

I have 2 qestions then for you:

1) Is anyone scucessfully running VA X on SP2 RC2?
2) So i cannot use Driver Studio ( mainly Sice ) with V Assist? I mean
wouldn't this be a hassle for a lot of device drivers developpers
using visual studio?

Thanks for your reply.

I'm successfully running VAX on XP SP2 RC2 with VS.NET 2003 but I don't do any driver development.

Thanks for your reply Chris Nahr.
Hmmmm....It might then be something else that is giving me this General Extraction error. I will investigate further.

Support: Any updates on the DriverStudion vs. VAX?

Thanks.

The exception you might mean is what happens when a program tries to execute code on non-text (means data) areas. It's called "Data execution prevention" (DEP) and works only on AMD64 CPUs at the moment. If the copy protection is indeed to blame, then something must have changed recently has I have been using build 1237 on an AMD64 with SP2 RC2 without problems. Can't test the newer build right now. Will do tomorrow.

Sorry, I put in a new HD (SATA) and forgot to test it. Now I can't test it anymore, because the AMD64 is now a pure gaming machine with neither SP2 nor any development stuff on it.

Sorry.

from memory support have said that you can use SoftIce with VAX once you register VAX.

Great, thanks for your answer. I find this tool to be pretty usefull so i might just end up purchasing it. I would have really liked a beta for VS2005 B1 though, because at home ( where i will purchase the license for ) that is what i am currently using. I don't want to go back to VS2003 :( ( I am not doing any production code from home )

VS 2005 is a common query at the moment:

it is worth remembering a lot of the people here are still using VS6

Just a quick update... we have VA X working internally in VS2005 beta 1. Many items need fixing, but the core is running well.

We expect support for VS2005 in a few months

Great admin!
Thanks for you reply!

I might try to run the demo version i have on VStudio 2005. I kind of figured out most part of it ( registry entries that is ). That would be neat to be able to run VAX and VS2005. It is like the dream team! :)

Btw, what do you ppl think of VS2005 B1? Isn't it great or what? :)
