I know this sounds retarded, but I have spent three goddam minutes trying to open my projects RC2 file in text mode. It takes so many keystrokes and mouse clicks, and I keep making typos because my hands are tired. I gave up to come here and vent; I'll try again in a few minutes.
Could you PLEASE, for the love of GOD, add a button that opens the RC and RC2 file in text mode? Maybe there's some easy way to do this, or a macro or something, and if so, I'd love to hear about it, but right now I think Notepad would be a better IDE than .NET 2003... The stupid thing doesn't even remember the last folder you open; I could pull a better IDE out of my, uh, ear.

Ya, I agree with you on the .rc .rc2 problem. I finally figured out that I could "Open With" in VS.Net and choose text editor and it would open as text. I do that all the time because I want my dialog resources to be exactly the same size. It would be a good feature to consider.
BTW - VS.Net 2005 does the same thing. No help there. |

Yeah, the "Open With" is the thing I'm talking about. You have to do "File, Open", then several clicks to navigate back to your project, then select the STUPID 'file type' combobox that doesn't remember your last choice to "*.*, then find the RC file. Now, click the arrow next to the "Open" button, to get the menu. Select "Open With" from the menu. From the dialog that pops, select the "Text Editor", then click ok.
That's 10 mouse clicks, assuming you make no mistakes. I want ONE mouse click.

Larry, did you ever try to open the solution view, right click on your .rc* file and then select "open with..." in vs2003.net?? |

Typing ".rc" in the FIW edit box and opening the resource file from the listbox opens it in text mode ( using VS6 )
I do it all the time since the first releases of VAX. |

Yeah, that's better... four mouse clicks is a lot better than ten. Thanks!

I'm sure there is a shortcut like ctrl+shift+left alt+click to open the .rc file in text mode. Anybody knows which combination it is? |
