I have both VS 2003 and VS 2005 installed. I upgraded to 1409 from a previous build, and I don't see VAX in VS 2005. Am I supposed to see VAssistX menu item in 2005 if VAX is correctly installed, just like in 2003/2002?

I have similar problem. I don't see any menu item or any change to Visual C# 2005 beta 2?

There is no getting started documentation in C:\\Program Files\\Visual Assist X dir. There is no program group in Start/All Programs.

How do I know if it even installed properly?

this is odd. i have installed 1409 on 2005 beta 2 IDE and it definitely shows up and works.

if it is installed you will see a tomato icon on the IDE splash screen when you load the IDE. you should also get a toolbar and menu.

off hand can you make sure that all copies of the IDE are closed, along with any MS Office programs. sometimes office keeps certain dll's open that confuse the installer. try closing anything else that you have running before installing 1409 again.

if it still does not work can you post details of you system, starting with OS and any installed IDE's.

Are you using Visual C# Express 2005 Beta 2 or the Full Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2?

I tried Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition beta 2.

Is Express Edition supported?

Sorry I don't know, I use a VS2005 professional.
After I install va 1409, I am also can't get the va toolbar and va's menu, so I use the
regsvr32.exe to regist the va's dll, then I find the va's menu and toolbar in the VC2005,
hope this will help you to get it. :)

I use VS 2005 C++ Express Beta2 and neither the setup nor the regsvr32
works.

As far as I know, support for Express-Editions of VS 2005 is planned, but apparently not working in 1409 yet.

I got the exact same error. I got the Visuall Assist splash screen when starting VS and it would show up in the Add-ins manager, but I had no VA menus, and no commands that could be mapped to the keys. Running RegSvr32 manually as mentioned above fixed it.

For what it's worth, I have a new install of VS 2005 Team Suite Beta 2 with no prior install of Visual Studio. I installed VA X 1301 before I realized that it wasn't supported on VS 2005 Beta 2. I uninstalled 1301 and then installed VA X 1409.

At my home computer, I too had "the Visual Assist splash screen when starting VS and it would show up in the Add-ins manager, but I had no VA menus, and no commands that could be mapped to the keys."

Windows XP SP 2, Full VS 2005 B2, and no other visual studios. The VS install was full (everything). Both of these were from scratch a few days prior. I installed XP on a new HD and made it the main one. Anyways, I will try regsvr32 when I get home tonight.

As for my work computer, the VA install worked (I see everything in visual studio 2005 B2) and here was the order:

Already had Windows XP SP1 + Visual Studio 2003 + Visual Assist 1298
Upgraded to Windows XP SP 2
Installed VS 2005 B2 (everything)
Installed VA 1409
Both VS 2003 and 2005 are working with the new VA

Hey, just thought I'd report my experience. I have a fresh install of Windows XP x64 Edition (on an Athlon64 machine), fresh install of VS2005 Beta 2. After installing build 1409 I got the VAX splash screen when I started VS, but no VAX toolbar/menu/key binding. After running regsvr32 on VaPkg.dll like suggested in the posts above the problem went away.
