... if I have two or more Visual Studios open.
When I open the first VS the list loads and works as it should, but when I load the second VS instance method lists stop working in both VS instances.
The list is simply blank and when I open it single empty row is displayed.

Looks like it's fixed in Build 1409.

I cannot reproduce it with 2 instances of VS 6 and VAX 1409.
Will test it this evening with 2 instances of VS .NET 2003 and build 1409.

Anyone else having this problem with build 1301?

It's available in the Public Beta Forum.

Mind you, it's a Beta...

i have been known to have 3 copies of vs2003 using VA 1301 open at once, and i have never had a problem with the list of members, it always worked for me.

it also works fine with 2 copies of vs2003 and VA 1409 for me. in both cases running under winXP pro SP2.

do you have any other addin's installed? do you have a localised IDE or OS?

I have a "Go Back" add in...
I disabled it in the AddIn manager and there is definetely some improvement... now the list works in the VS that was opened first!
I'll try to reinstall VS and VAX today...

Try hammering the refresh file (Alt+R) key until you get a status bar message other than "DEBUG: blah blah blah". Then the methods dropdown should work. If you're running several copies of VS.NET, especially if they are all on the same project and all looking at the same file, it can take a few goes. But as I recall it always ends up working in the end.

ivanc it sounds like the "go back" addin is causing this problem, since i don't have this installed and i have never seen this problem. from the name does it simply store your movement history through the file? if so VA already does this.

i suspect what tom is talking about is VA's reparse current file:
VAssistX menu -> tools -> reparse current file

you can also assign a keyboard shortcut to this in the IDE's options.

I removed the Go Back addin completely and it's still the same (it is used for jumping around the source code, something like last visited location... I don't remember exactly since I haven't used it for quite a while).
The reparse current file does not work, the list still behaves the same.

I usually don't have multiple VS open for the same solution.

this is strange. do you get this problem in all files? can you create a new basic project and then open this project in two copies of the IDE and see what happens?

it is possible there is something in your project that is confusing VA, but i don't see how. are you using a localised IDE? are there characters from different languages in your files?

could you also try telling VA to rebuild the symbol databases and clear its cache, under the performance node in VA options. deleting any NCB files is also worth a try.

I am having this problem with both 1309 and 1413. It started after creating and logging in as a new domain user on my machine. This problem is INCREDIBLY frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you enable logging on the Performance node of our options dialog? Reproduce the errant behavior. Exit your IDE and send us zipped version of c:\\va.log
