Humm, perhaps I have missed something but did VA just become subscriptionware?
I just (as I had alot of problems with the last build) downloaded the new version and my key no longer works. Then I read the info about support subscriptions and thought what the heck, I thought I had bought the program when i bought the program?
So could somone explain to me whats up?

Then I have to ask; Beeing an opensource developer/student are there any plans for a "cheeper" form of non-comercial licence? Paying $50/year might not be much for a company (you will save $50 using VA the first day if you are a payed developer) but for me thats quite alot especialy as I dont actually "save any money" on using VA (yes, it makes my life simpler, but not really $50/year simpler)?
(sorry if this has been asked before)

No plans for a cheaper version, nor a "cheeper" version. |

MickeM,
As feline said, if you buy it once, you own it. It is the year of upgrades they charge you for so you are not compelled to buy again. The folks at WholeTomato are NOT in school being supported by someone else like their parents. They have to charge to stay in business, or they would go broke and have to go out and get a job that does charge for its software (have you taken Economics yet?).
I am curious about something, because I do believe this "open source" mentality is a tad bit of a socialist entitlement one (especially in software, and especially the way you are used it) where people develop this belief that the world is somehow obliged to make their life easier, while they themselves are not obliged to reciprocate the kindness other than a G?gee thanksG? that doesnG??t feed their families. How does one support a family on G?open sourceG?? How does one pay for school like you are going to on G?open sourceG? (even if your government pays for it, where do they get their funding come from)?
Do you ever install video games on your machine? If you do, do you buy them or just make copies of someone else's? Do you have cable TV? Do you have a cell phone? Upgrades to these items are not free either, right?
Like I said, I am just curious. But, IMHO, that's "what's up" with the subscription policy. ItG??s called a business model and is required to keep money coming so they can feed their kids and put them in school and buy their kids computers so their kids can develop G?open sourceG? long enough to grow up and figure out that the G?thatG??s neato, you've copied the innovation of the commercial companiesG? praises from your open source buddies, donG??t pay the bills.
VA does not enable you to do anything you couldn't do without it. It is simply a time saver, if you are not making money with your "open source" as you say, why do you need to save time? For a business, "time is money", what is time an open sourcer?

Though a reasonable question, we don't post a release schedule.
When your year has expired, check the list of bug fixes and feature improvements associated with the next build we issue. If decent, go ahead and renew. If not, wait and check the next build. |
