Just upgraded to build 1416, and I've noticed that syntax highlighting is sometimes incorrect for some methods. After upgrading to 1416, before reopening the solution, I cleared the VAX cache and rebuilt the symbol database. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the methods that are colored incorrectly that I can tell. Manually opening the header file where the method is declared fixes the problem. I've sent a screenshot via email displaying the problem.
- I am using the default color scheme, and I tried pressing the "Use Defaults" button. - I most all syntax coloring options enabled.

I would host the image but access to my website is still stored on my old computer (someday I'll migrate all that stuff over)...
Anyway, reverted to version 1413, and that doesn't have the problem. Everything seems to be colored correctly. Hope that helps. |

the pictures work this time. does this effect only show up in a specific project?
what happens if you hover the mouse over one of these #define's? where does VA's alt_g take you? what information do you get in the VA Wizard bar when you place the caret inside one of these #define's?
i am trying to work out if VA knows what these are or not. the problem could be limited to syntax highlighting, or it could be more wide ranging. |

It seems to be limited to syntax highlighting.
1. Hovering over the symbol shows the declaration correctly.
2. "Goto implementation" works normally
3. VA Wizard bar? Not sure what you mean by this. |

If it happens it seems like VA doesn't know these symbols/types at all.
>what happens if you hover the mouse over one of these #define's? iirc, nothing happend
>where does VA's alt_g take you? that one didn't work for sure
>what information do you get in the VA Wizard bar when you place the >caret inside one of these #define's? if you mean the bar shown on top in codeeditor, it was empty.
I can't reproduce it, it just happens from time to time and the problem from screenshots happend to declarations i haven't even altered for a while. Only thing that helps is restarting IDE. The problem did first occur w/ build 1406, never had such a weirdo problem w/ other builds.

Strange.
Build 1418 has several fixes related to coloring and parsing. While not certain it will help you, the build is worth a try.
Let us know if the problem recurs. |

Just checked beta forum for 1418 and found the "several instance" issue. I think this could be exactly my prob as well. |

do you also use Norton AV Corporate edition? if so can you post the version you are using, and can you test to see if temporarily turning off the "on demand checking" makes and difference? (Per another thread, the option might be called, "Enable Auto-Protect.") |

Nope, I don't. And if I were using some AV software the first thing to disable is "on demand/access" checking. Like I have performance to share:) |

so much for that easy fix *sigh*
does this only happen when you have two instances of the IDE open? you don't seem to have mentioned this before, but this is the trigger in the "several instances" threads.
thinking about the anti-virus effect are you running any other programs that might be effecting files, eg disk keeper to keep your hard drive defragmented? |

yes, because I didnt think that this could cause such a problem.
>thinking about the anti-virus effect are you running any other >programs that might be effecting files, eg disk keeper to keep your >hard drive defragmented?
nope, there is nothing the like running in background.
anyways. this morning i had this: http://bugfix.hostvan.com/vax03s.jpg
i started a single vs.net, opened my solution where i've left it yesterday and did a "build solution" while VAX was parsing. Now in every cpp the var ParamBlock is colored wrong as well as some other vars. just got my lic renewal, i really hope you get the coloring probs fixed in 14xx because thats one of the main reasons to use VAX:)

i can assure you that we will try very hard to fix this.
*considers* so far you seem to be the only person having this problem, so it is probably something about either your system or your projects. i am not sure if evolution is seeing this under the same conditions or not.
bugfix which IDE are you using? if it is VS 2003 can you try: tools -> options -> fonts and colours -> use defaults
this will wipe out your current colour scheme, but could show if your current colour scheme is relevant to this bug.
if such problems are easy to produce can you see if they happen on a new win32 project? this provides a simple test that i can then double check at this end. |

Evolution is not alone, I have the exact same problems on my laptop and desktop and a colleague of mine also has these problems.
I see the same problems in Embedded VS 3 and 4.
Might it be something that went wrong with the upgrade cycle? I have been using VAssist for a couple of years now and I have simply upgraded everytime a newer version came along.

Frederik are you seeing this bug on any code, or on the same code on both machines? is your colleague using the same code as you?
obviously something has changed, and probably broken. the problem is finding out what.
Frederik are you able to reproduce this effect in a small test project that you would be able to email me?
also can someone load the IDE, turn on VA logging: VA Options -> Performance -> General -> Enable logging
load the problem project so that the problem shows up, and then quit the IDE. then send the files:
c:\\va.log c:\\Program Files\\Visual Assist X\\Startup.log
to [email protected] , referencing this thread in the email, so that support will know what the logs are about. |

Hi, feline, Eevolution and Frederik are not alone. I also have the same problem in VC++6 SP5. There are hundreds of DLL modules in my project.
I use the version 1301 first, and it can work well. So I update the version from 1301 to 1416. After updating, this problem will happen. Both the version 1416 and 1418 will happen. So I re-installl the version 1301 again, but this problem still happen. And now, I use VA 6.0. This version can work very well.
Without Visual Assist, it is hard for me to implement code so easy. After using Visual Assist, the schedule of project has been shortened. But if the parsing result is wrong, most of the function will not work. So I have to use VA6 now in order not to let my project schedule delay. I am also a RD, I know it is not easy to fix a bug without having a bug environment. But if possible, I can help to do some test for you in order to fix this bug.
