Hello all,

This morning I've reported (http://forum.wholetomato.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1950) some strange effect with the column indicator, due to draging the horizontal scrollbar. It seems that the horizontal scrollbar is the culprit for another effect. It seems that "Highlight matching {} and () using..." doesn't work anymore if the horizontal scrollbar isn't places all to the left. If the scrollbar is just a little to the right, I don't see any bold characters any more, and they also will not become bold anymore.

I hope the fine team of whole tomato could take a look at this; I use this option a lot. Thank you in advance.

With kind regards,
Patrick Luja

I can't reproduce this on my system (VC6 / 1221). Bold {} seem to work at all horizontal scrollbar positions

I can't reproduce this on my system either (VS.NET 2003 / 1221). Can you post code offending code?

I'm seeing something a bit like what Patrick is describing.

I place my cursor inside some matching parentheses and they go green, as expected. Now I drag the horizontal scrollbar a little to the right. The parentheses turn black. Clicking out and back in, or even hovering over another symbol, turns them green again.

I normally use Verdana 11pt. If I switch to Courier, I observe the same thing, except with one tiny difference: If the parentheses are empty, then scrolling only disables the colouring for one of the parentheses. The right-hand one is still coloured when I'm scrolling right, and the left-hand one is still coloured when I'm scrolling left.

Further, and more serious: If the parenthesised portion is longer than the window width, and the scrollbar is scrolled to the right to see the end of it, there appears to be no way to make the right parenthesis coloured.

Hello all,

I'm using Visual Studio.Net version 2002, with Courier New size 10 (13 Pixels). I can't always seem to reproduce this effect; in my eyes it depends on the width of some other lines visible in the window, but I can't lay my finger on it.

(I've seen this both in splitted and non-splitted windows. My first thought was that it had to do something with the splitting, but I was able to reproduce it in a non-splitted window.)

The last remark of Stephen is also true. Thanks for bringing it up.

It would be nice to hear from Support if there is something they can do about it.

With kind regards,
Patrick Luja

I should have mentioned that I'm using VS.NET 2002 too. I haven't tested how reproducible it is, but it worked on 1 out of 1 trials.

Unfortunately, no reaction from support on this one...
I would appreciate it though...

This is actually a tough one. We have attempted fixes a few times, however it is still on the list.

Still reproducable in Build 1246:
Place caret inside () brackets. They're highlighted.
Now move the hor. scrollbar and leave the mousecursor above the scrollbar!

No highlighting anymore, until you move the mouse away from the scrollbar!

Dear WannabeeDeveloper,

It's still reproducable (October 2004). I can even reproduce this, without leaving the mousecursor on the scroll-bar.
When I have reproduced it (not that I want to), I normally click on the line, between the braces, but no luck.

Hello all,

It's still reproducable in build 1287.

I've migrated to MS VS.Net 2003 and I still see this effect.
The most important effect is the effect discribed is his second posting of this topic. (That's what I tried to say in the first posting of this topic, but he did it better...)

I can reproduce it quite often.
One point is that you must have some long lines (about 1.5 screens long) and you have to drag the bar far enough to the right (at least 20 characters).
And, as said, I don't have to have my mousepointer on the horizontal scroll bar.

I'm using Courier New (13 pixels), both with and without MS ClearType.

I hope the fine team of Whole Tomato can do something about it.

With kind regards,
Patrick Luja

Hello Patrick,

I have just checked this in the Bugbase (case=196), and it still is open and heavily worked at.
So, unfortunately, I am not able to tell you something better than "known bug, will be fixed soon".
