with build 1548, when searching where history is written, I found that startup.log was written frequently (this option is not enabled in VA option pane).
By the way, I found that VA1548 is slower than previous version 1544...

startup.log does get written, this is normal. When you enable logging in VA's options then you get a lot more logging, in other files.

One good reason for writing to startup.log is if an exception is caught, recording this fact is useful even if logging was not enabled.

As for speed, there should not be any slow down in moving to 1548.
Are you noticing this all of the time?
What sort of things are slower?
Is this connected to specific actions?

Ok for the log.
I found 1548 slower on large files (more than 20.000 lines)

That's a large file. Does this slow down show at the top of the file?
What sort of actions are slow?
Do you have many files this large?

After a bit of searching I am only finding one cpp file in this range, a file from Qt which is 22,946 lines long and 1.58 meg in size.

Using VS2005 I have two virtual machines open, one using VA 1548 and one using VA 1544, and I am running task manager minimised in both, to provide a CPU meter. I have simply drag and dropped the file into both IDE's, so it is not part of any project, but both IDE's have the same test project open.

Going to the bottom of the file and holding down the Page Up key, with VA's enhanced syntax highlighting turned on is pegging the CPU at close to 100% on both machines, but I am not seeing any obvious speed differences between these two machines.

Is this a helpful test?
