We recently upgraded to VS 2008 and VAX1640. Using a relatively large solution (several tens of projects), I found that using the "Symbols in Solution" drop-down doesn't work. Although the code is indexed and the searched method is found, clicking or double clicking on the requested method from the drop-down list has no effect, no file is opened. Interestingly, on approximately 10% of the cases the relevant source files are opened, as expected. I tested the same code with the old VS 2003 and the new VAX 1640 and the source files were always opened.
Do you have any thought of what can cause this issue?

What happens if you use ALT-SHIFT-S to show the Find Symbol dialog? Do you have the same problem here? |

I tried the ALT-SHIFT-S on several of the methods that didn't work previously and the .h files were opened (at the correct position). I tried also from the VA View, and to my surprise, the same methods now opened the .h file from here too. I retried a method that worked before, and this time the C file was opened. |

I am confused.
Is the Find Symbol dialog always working correctly?
Is the Symbol list in VA View working in a "random" manor? |

I am confused too... After restarting the VS2008, the symbols that previously were not found, are now opened, but only .h files instead of .C files. Other symbols that worked also at first try, are opened correctly. It's not quite random, because it's always the same symbols that open in .h files (and previously didn't open at all). |

Assuming this goes wrong with the symbol "fooProblem" can you try the following:
* close all open files * use VA View symbol list to jump to "fooProblem" * close any opened files * use the Find Symbol dialog to jump to "fooProblem"
this way it is easier to see what happens. |
