In VS2010 with VA #1822, the autocompletion dropdown does not appear in floating document windows, at least for C#. Repro steps:

1. Right-click a document tab in the IDE and select "Float"
2. Start typing a symbol and hit ctrl-space

Results: no dropdown appears. The IDE acts as if the dropdown is activated - up/down do not move the cursor, and a tooltip may appear depending on what in the invisible listbox is selected.

Note that if I choose VAssistX | Enable/Disable VisualAssist X to disable VAX, then try ctrl-space again, I do get the dialog.

I'm noticing this problem more and more as I get used to the new VS2010 tab-only interface. With 2008 and before, I had always been using MDI. Now, I find myself dragging windows out a lot to put them on different monitors for reference. It's fine for reference but if I try to edit code I run into this invisible dropdown problem, and have to dock it on the main window before doing any heavy work.

I sure hope this can be fixed soon. :)

Does the VA Nav Bar appear in the window when it is floating?

Do C++ files work as expected?

Does it work when floated on the same monitor that the main shell is on?

I've done some cursory tests on both single and dual monitor systems in both C# and C++, but am not seeing this.

The VA Nav Bar does appear in both C# and C++ windows when they are floating, and it operates fine.

C++ files have the same problem as C# for autocomplete.

Does not matter which monitor, but it always has this problem. This also happens on my laptop with a single monitor.

I tried disabling all my addins except VA and the problem goes away. Will narrow it down more.

This is strange. I reenabled the addins one by one to see which one would cause the failure, and none did. They are all enabled now, and the dropdown works in floating documents. I'm at a loss, but I suppose the problem is resolved.

Strange. Are they all addins, all extensions or a mix?

I have addins and extensions, but only disabled extensions in this test.

Hopefully the resolution survives IDE restart. And then the next test will be what happens after an update of VA...
