I need to add a new pairing of extensions for the "Open Corresponding File" feature. Is this possible? If so where/how?

No, unfortunately it is not currently possible.

If VA understands the file extensions then it should look for matching files automatically when you press Alt-O. Alternatively you might find this IDE macro helpful:
