It sometimes happens that Visual Assist starts only in the first instance of Visual Studio 2008 that I open. If I open another one VA isn't available there (all menu options are greyed out). I was trying to solve this all morning, but suddenly it's working when I tried to open VS again. So it's sporadic but common enough to be annoying.

I've installed the latest (1842), but it's still happening. Using it under Windows 7 installed in VirtualBox.

Are you getting any error messages or dialogs that might explain why VA is disabled?

This almost sounds like VA is detecting that VA is installed and running simultaneously on to many machines for your license key, and is disabling its self. This can happen if machines are added to the network after VA is loaded. But if this was happening you should be getting a message box informing you of this problem.

Are you using the shift key to start a new instance from the Win7 taskbar?

Yes, that's what I'm doing, shift click on the taskbar.

feline, I'm not getting any error messages, but it's an interesting point, since I have VA installed with the same license on both the PC I'm using and inside the VM, so I guess if I run Visual Studio on both there might be a problem. However, that wasn't the case.

Holding shift while starting Visual Studio prevents load of addins.

Thanks for letting me know. WTF? Right clicking and selecting from the menu seems to work fine, so I guess I'll use that.

Also, you can use middle click to start new instance.
