Hello all,

I want to report an effect I'm currently having.
The status-bar is stating "Parsing \\\\<SourceSafeLocation>\\temp\\<file1>.h" and then "Parsing \\\\<SourceSafeLocation>\\temp\\<file2>.h" and loop back to the message about the first file. It goes back and forth between those two files.
It obviously is some kind of loop.

Nothing serious (I hope), but I thought I should mention it.

With kind regards,
Patrick Luja

P.S. Visiting the Whole Tomato-forums have a positive effect on this described effect. It stopped (we scared it away). After writing this (in a full screened browser), the effect stopped. The status-bar keeps stating that is it parsing one of those two files.

Hello again,

Additionally, when I got back to Visual Studio, I wanted to type inside a source window. VA X stated (in an error message) that I had too many files open. (I counted 25 files as tabs in the source window.) After selecting another file, the loop started again.
I've enabled logging and repeated the typing (resulting in "too many files open") and then selecting/opening another file, which causes to loop to show.
I'll send this to [email protected] . I hope this gives you some kind of clue.

I think I'll close all the windows and restart my IDE.
(Edited: That fixed the problem for now...)

With kind regards,
Patrick Luja

Hello all,

Did someone else see this behaviour?
I don't encounter it anymore, but maybe it's still worth a look? (In my eyes it's important to parse all the files, a hang could lead to not having all files parsed.)

Thanks again.

With kind regards,
Patrick Luja

Hello,
currently I have now the same problem with a workspace - but each time I open it.
And it does not parse 2 files in a loop but a lot more. Dunno the exact number, it's too fast to count them. Mabye it's even a whole include branch of the SDK I am using.

I am using Visual Studio 6 with SP6. German. VA_X 1287.

It's very annoying, because it eats most of my CPU cycles - and I am developing for real-time 3D and each spare CPU cycle is needed for testing!

Any tips fors me?

Try "Rebuild" on the Performance node of our options dialog. Restart your IDE.

If you still have the problem, enable logging per #12 in our FAQ and send us the logs.

Hello Dom,

With me, this effect only showed with a few of my projects, not with all.
Does it occur to you with every project?

I don't know what it cause, or what caused it to stop, but I don't experience this behaviour any more (luckily). I'm sorry I can't help you with this.

With kind regards,
Patrick Luja

patluja,

looks like it's onyl with a specifique project. I am currenlty mainly working with this one - so I have VA turned off by default :(
Just checked with another project using the same SDK/includes, but no problem there.
Maybe it's the way I include things in the other project, or maybe I do additionally include something else from that SDK ....

feline,
ah ok.
Thank you for the info and trying to reach them regarding this topic! :)

Hello Dom,

I remember vaguely that I did the following a few times:
Start the IDE, disable VAX, Load the project, Use the project a short while, re-enable VAX. As I remember, it helped a few times, but after a while, this would start to loop also.
(Hmmm, now I'm not sure if it was with this loop, or with a crash, I tried this.) Maybe it's worth trying...

With kind regards,
Patrick Luja

While we have yet to look closely at patluja's log, another from Dom will help. We assume the problem is reproducible for you.

feline is correct -- we're trying to catch up after a busy holiday.

Hello support,

sorry but I don't understand your message. I already sent you my logs. Didn't you get them? If not, tell me - I'll resend.

Ok, I'll wait until you have worked through your desk pile of TODOs. Just wanted to know if you got my data as I had no feedback. :)

I believe the devs need just another (new) log from you.
They believe you can always reproduce this false behaviour, so it is easy for you to create another logfile.

Is it okay for you to create another logfile, zip and mail it to [email protected] ?

We looked at your logs and see files on ""\\\\server\\sourcecodes\\virtools 3 sdk\\..." getting reparsed. What kind of server is this?

It appears that every time we ask for the date of a header file, it returns a random date, so VA X constantly reparses the files thinking they have changed.

I replied to your eMail. It's a windows XP SP1 Professional computer. Older AMD with a UDMA133 Raid controller. We are using standard windows filesharing to access files from it via a network-switch.

if you look at the server folder and files in explorer are you seeing the correct modified date/time stamps? or are you seeing random file date/time stamps? this is a long shot, but it seems very odd VAX would be getting random times back its self.

Time Stamps are looking ok. Either using the explorer on the server itself or via the network. Refreshing the View doesn't give different dates.

I just downloaded and installed 10.1.1299.0

Unfortunally the parsing-loop is not fixed WHEN I go via \\\\server\\....
When using Drive-Letters to access the project, I don't get this loop.

If you need further information, please tell me.
Thanks

We believe will have a fix in the next build. Until then, can you try adding the following to your system include path:

\\\\server\\sourcecodes\\virtools 3 sdk
\\\\server\\sourcecodes\\virtools 3 sdk\\includes

Press Rebuild on the Performance node of our options dialog and restart your IDE.

case=576

Sorry I am currently under time pressure. Will have time after monday.
With system path, do you mean to add it to the 'path' enviroment variable of the OS?

For VC++ 6.0, add the directories to "Include files" in Tools|Options|Directories
