If you are not covered by technical support, this build will run in a 30-day trial mode. At the end of the trial, you will have an opportunity to renew support or you can reinstall build 1301.

Check the About node of our options dialog to see if you are covered by technical support. If you do not see an explicit date of termination, your support has expired.

If you do not have a license and your trial has expired, copy the following two lines into our Enter Key dialog:

Trial License
AB0A-928B-D534-7CF7-6171-E892-C351-9FB6-F37F-00B2-220F-0C2F

Build 1409 installs itself in all MS IDEs it supports, including Standard Edition of VS2005.

Visual Assist X does not yet work in Express editions of VS2005.

List of fixes is available at:

http://www.wholetomato.com/support/history.html

Reset of VS.NET is not required. No changes to templates.

The page at http://www.wholetomato.com/purchase/buy.html doesn't yet allow me to buy the support extension.

Is it supposed to have a radio button rather than an asterisk?

We will begin selling support renewal when a 14xx build becomes general release. We expect this at the end of May. Hence, your trial should get you to that point.

If you're anxious, you can purchase a VA X Upgrade. Cost is identical to renewal and you get one year of upgrades/new versions.

Having installed the trial tonight, it's telling me at startup that it will expire in 3 days... Do I need to contact support about this?

I'd suggest you try out the key in the first post.

Or did you already do that?

No, I didn't do that - it's apparently for people who don't have a licence.

I vaguely hope that someone at WTS would think that it mattered that the software didn't offer 30 days like it should...

When it expires tomorrow, I shall try that key (shortly before reinstalling something earlier, I expect).

Normally, you get a 3-day trial on a PC if you ran a trial previously and that trial expired. Trying another build causes VA X to run for just a few days.

The intent of our mini-extension is that you get a chance to confirm a bug fix. In this case, you want to test a major upgrade so you need more than 3 days. Use the trial key in this thread or send us an email asking for a new trial key.

If you have a valid license as we believe you do, we suspect your term of technical support has expired. Perhaps you are using a PC on which a trial had expired, prior to your purchasing a license for which technical support has expired.

Whew.

Send us your license info if you want us to identify the software for which is valid. We are happy to extend trials as well.

You're possibly right about a trial previously expiring, though as I've had a VA licence a lot longer than this PC, I'm slightly doubtful!

Anyway, I put the key in from the original post in this thread, and that's kept me working for the moment. Of course, my 'support' has long ago expired (in both directions, perhaps...), but when you turn the asterisk on http://www.wholetomato.com/purchase/buy.html into a radiobutton, I shall be pleased to place my credit card at your disposal.

(Actually, I shall probably leave this until the last minute, to maximise its reach into next year, but anyway...)

Your plan to maximize "reach into next year" is exactly why the button is an asterisk. We're forcing everyone to do it.

Hi,
I am having a bit of trouble getting the trial license to work...
I am an old VA customer (support has expired) but just installer Visual Studio 2005 beta2, so installed the 1409 evaluation. I couldnt get the key to work: I entered

Trial License
AB0A-928B-D534-7CF7-6171-E892-C351-9FB6-F37F-00B2-220F-0C2F

in the box (I copied the above from the box, not from this forum, to check that I pasted the correct info!)
I get the message (after a pause) 'you entered an invalid key for this product...'

I bet I am doing something silly?

Aha, now going back to Visual Studio 2002, I get 'Visual Assist X failed to load or caused an exception ... code 0x800a0030'...

Do you use the "full" Beta2 or one of the Express Visual Studio 2005?

VAX does not yet work in VS 2005 Express...

Hi,
It is the full monty Team Suite Beta Experience Kit... came through in the post on 3 DVDs! The trial version of Visual Assist is working with Visual Studio 2005 absolutely fine. The only problem is that presumably I have only 3 days trial, since I can't get the above trial key to be recognised.

I'm certainly going to renew my support contract so I can get a proper uptodate license, as soon as I get this working.... I am unable to write code without Visual Assist :)

I can't get the trial key posted to work either - it just gives an invalid key message.
I have the full version of beta 2 from the DVDs also.

can you try copying the key from your web browser into notepad, and then copy it from notepad into VA?

i have occasionally had problems when copying text directly from firefox, since stray characters or control characters can be picked up. this should strip any invisible characters.

jon_dee can you try reinstalling your previous version of VA? since this should not know about vs2005 it should fix your vs2002 problem, just leaving us with this licence key problem to look into.

i have successfully used this trial licence key myself, so it does work.

Hi,

> i have occasionally had problems when copying text directly from firefox,

yes I have seen this in the past... so I tried it with IE, and still get the invalid key message... also I did check that all the characters had been copied correctly...

> can you try reinstalling your previous version of VA?

Yup, but I guess I need a download link for the old version of VA? My support contract has run out so I need a build prior to 1301 (I think build 1299?). I can't seem to find a link to this version on the site (the link from the relevant 1299 thread in this forum no longer points to a download).

Hehe any chance of reposting the new trial key right here?
As I write this, the link to the forum post is dead! I get:

"There Was A Problem
You do not have access to this forum."

And a quick browse shows that there is no thread (visible to me) with TOPIC_ID=3707...

So near yet so far! :)

I have installed version 1409 and I get the same 'you entered an invalid key for this product' when I enter the trial license key that other users have reported. I only get this message on my desktop computer - it worked fine on my notebook.

tkontos do you know if you have previously used a trial version of VA on your desktop machine?

did you use the same installer on both machines, or did you re-download it?

i am searching for any clues to help explain why this key sometimes fails.

No, I have never installed a trial version on this machine. I re-download it since I do not keep a copy on my computer; I download the latest version any time I need to install it.

Can you please give me access to the message that contains the 'good' trial license number? Thanks

It's posted in the "public" Beta Forums now.

However, if you volunteer to help chasing some bugs, we'll gladly add you to the "private" Area.
Do you still want to?
